CHAPTER TEN

Katrina

Whilst searching broadcast footage I was surprised to find that Weyland Forth, or “Doctor Death” has a growing following. In the outside world, Hacktivists have hacked into the SkyCam database and have been following Doctor Death’s steps tracing the outbreak back to the Aldermaston Military Facility. A young reporter speaks to a CBS news camera.

“Although SkyCam is a pay-per-view service, they often cooperate with police investigations. Since Hacktivists attacked their servers, the multibillion dollar company have decided to live stream Weyland Forth’s movements along with any other important developments within the island. Such a development within the last hour, has been two of the mad scientist’s experiments known as Super Soldiers , which can only be described as a pair of green, fire-breathing monsters , set ablaze the front of Castle Dover and the military’s improvised extraction point. After destroying the Eurotunnel, and now the assault on the castle, it would appear that “Doctor Death” really doesn’t want anyone escaping alive. Janlow Borrister, CBS News.”

Katrina is in the castle courtyard looking relieved to have reached the safe zone. She holds Soledad up in the air trying to follow the large sign’s instructions as best she could, turns to find Scott and only sees a crowd of oncoming smiles, running straight towards her. She stumbles backwards until her back is against the huge castle doors, with the baby raised above her hopelessly as the infectees rush up to her until a horn sounds followed by the fluted whistling sound of sniper rifles. The infectees fall at her feet, the huge crowd filling the courtyard falling away from her like dominoes. Once she is the only one left standing a second horn sounds and one of the doors open letting out groups of soldiers. All the while Katrina just stands there searching the distance for her friend, Scott. A strong hand clasps her upper arm, pulling her inside the huge wooden doors despite her resistance. One of them pulls her away over to a camouflaged tent, pushes her inside and hurries off. She is greeted by a crowd of nervous eyes, people like her, seated on fold-up chairs, rickety on the uneven grass. They quickly look away, as she stares back, but then look back at her again - her grubby tiger suit a visual feast for their tired eyes, bored of staring at green canvas. The silence was palpable. Suddenly it is broken with a quick, blunt; “You.”

The woman sat behind a small desk with a stack of papers, insists with a beckoning hand gesture. The small military security camera shows Katrina shifting Soledad in her arms, wanders over and sits on a wobbly fold-up chair opposite her. “Name?” asks the woman curtly.

Katrina opens her mouth and points to it, wagging her finger. “What? What’s the problem?” an intercom sounds on her desk and a word barely audible through static blares out; “Erinnack Church”.

“Erinnack Church?” she calls out to the nervous and utterly bored room. The attractive father that had stolen her and Scott’s car, springs up and hurriedly pulls his children along too.
